Free YouTube Shorts voiceover generator — script to MP3 in seconds
Paste your Shorts script, pick a voice, hit Generate. Get a downloadable MP3 sized to a 15s, 30s, or 60s Short with the pacing the algorithm rewards. No signup for short scripts.
News-anchor delivery — best for finance and tech explainers
YouTube Shorts is the most authority-driven of the three short-form platforms. Viewers come from a YouTube ecosystem that has trained them on long-form expertise, so a Short that sounds like an explainer outperforms a Short that sounds like a TikTok hook.
The Shorts algorithm rewards two things: a hook that survives the first 2 seconds (because the swipe-up gesture is light), and watch-through that signals interest before the algorithm pushes the next video.
This generator maps your script to YouTube's native Shorts lengths (15s, 30s, 60s — Shorts max out at 60s), picks a Chirp 3 HD voice with the explainer cadence Shorts viewers respond to, and hands you an MP3 you can drop straight into the Shorts editor or YouTube Studio.
Free under 500 characters and 10 generations per month per IP, no signup needed. Sign in for a SocialCal plan to unlock the full 1,500-character ceiling and a real monthly allowance — Starter 30,000 characters, Professional 60,000, Enterprise 90,000.
How the YouTube Shorts voiceover generator works
Three steps from script to MP3. The whole flow runs in seconds.
Paste your script
Drop in up to 500 characters free, or sign in for the full 1,500-char ceiling. The live counter shows runtime at YouTube pace.
Pick a voice + speed
Eight studio-quality AI voices grouped by vibe. For Shorts, authoritative or confident voices (Ethan, Marcus, Luna) outperform the punchier TikTok defaults.
Match the length preset
Pick 15s, 30s, or 60s. Shorts cap at 60s — running long is impossible, but running short under-uses the algorithm slot.
Generate + download MP3
Audio is generated server-side with Chirp 3 HD and streamed back as a clean MP3. Drop it into the Shorts editor or your video editor of choice.
Why creators use this for YouTube Shorts
YouTube viewers come from a different mental model than TikTok or Reels viewers. They're used to a creator who teaches them something. The voices in this tool that work best for Shorts are Ethan (Authoritative Male), Marcus (Confident Male), and Luna (Calm Narrator) — voices that sound like they know what they're talking about. The energetic and playful voices that crush on TikTok feel out of place on Shorts.
YouTube's Shorts algorithm in 2026 weights two signals more than the others: hook completion (did they watch past the first 2 seconds?) and average view duration (did they watch most of it?). The length presets here translate seconds into a character cap so you stop writing 60s scripts that come in at 38s — under-running the format is the #1 reason a Short gets demoted to a single 47-impression bucket and never recovers.
Shorts also feeds back into long-form. A Short that ranks well drives subscribers to your channel page; that's where the long-form videos live. Match your VO voice on Shorts to whoever narrates your long-form videos — viewers who hop from a Short to a long-form video and feel a voice mismatch churn fast.
Length presets, char counts, and YouTube Shorts pace
Most TTS tools just give you a textarea. We map your script to the platform's native durations so you stop blowing past the runtime that the algorithm prefers.
| Preset | Target duration | Approx char cap | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15s Short | 15s | ~190 chars | |
| 30s Short | 30s | ~375 chars | Quick hooks, ad-style cold opens |
| 60s Short | 60s | ~750 chars | Standard short-form video |
What people use the YouTube Shorts voiceover for
YouTube Shorts-specific workflows from the creators using this tool.
Explainer Shorts under 60 seconds
Explainer Shorts are the highest-converting Shorts format for subscriber growth. Use Ethan (Authoritative Male) at 1.0× speed with the 60s preset — long enough to teach a concept, short enough to land in the Shorts shelf.
Tutorial and how-to Shorts
Tutorial Shorts for software, finance, real estate, or DIY work best with Marcus (Confident Male) or Luna (Calm Narrator). Both have the explainer cadence that signals competence — energetic voices feel like infomercials in this slot.
Quick news and commentary Shorts
News-style Shorts (e.g. 'this just happened') benefit from a faster pace — try Ethan at 1.1× with the 30s preset. The slight speed-up reads as urgency without sounding rushed.
Faceless YouTube Shorts
Faceless Shorts (motivation, history, finance compilations) are 100% voiceover. Pick Marcus or Ethan, draft to the 60s preset, and pair with stock footage in your editor. The MP3 imports cleanly into the YouTube Shorts editor as an audio overlay.
YouTube Shorts voiceover generator — FAQ
Is the YouTube Shorts voiceover generator really free?+
Yes — scripts up to 500 characters generate without an account, capped at 10 generations per month per IP. That's enough to try the tool with a real script. Above 500 characters or after 10 free generations you sign in for a SocialCal plan, which unlocks 30,000–90,000 characters per month depending on tier.
Can I use the generated MP3 commercially on YouTube?+
Yes. Google's Chirp 3 HD voices (the underlying engine) are licensed for commercial use including ad creatives and monetized content. The MP3 has no watermark, no attribution requirement, and no usage cap once downloaded. The license covers Shorts, monetized long-form videos, and YouTube Ads.
Does the voice work for YouTube ads?+
It does. YouTube ads work best with the authoritative voices (Ethan, Marcus) — the same explainer cadence that wins on Shorts also drives higher view-through-rate on TrueView and Bumper ads. Use the 30s preset for skippable ad creative, 15s for non-skippable.
How long can my YouTube Shorts voiceover script be?+
500 characters free per request, 1,500 characters with a SocialCal subscription. Shorts max out at 60 seconds, so 1,500 characters gives you plenty of headroom for trimming. Hard cap is 1,500 even on Enterprise to keep generation fast.
Will YouTube demonetize Shorts that use AI-generated audio?+
YouTube's monetization policy in 2026 allows AI-generated audio in Shorts as long as the content is original and not deceptive. Voiceovers from this tool meet that bar. The two policies that matter: don't impersonate real people, and don't claim AI-generated content is human-made when YouTube asks during upload.
Should my Shorts voice match my long-form video voice?+
Ideally, yes. Viewers who discover you through a Short and click to your channel expect a similar voice on the long-form videos. If you narrate long-form yourself, pick the AI voice closest to your range — for most male creators that's Marcus or Ethan, for female creators it's Luna or Jordan.
Why does YouTube favor 60-second Shorts?+
Shorts cap at 60s, and YouTube's algorithm treats longer Shorts as higher-investment signals. A 60s Short that holds 70% watch-time outperforms a 15s Short that holds 90%, because absolute watch-time is the dominant Shorts signal in 2026. Use the 60s preset unless you have a specific reason to go shorter.
Does this work for languages other than English?+
Currently English (US) only. Chirp 3 HD supports more languages and we'll expand the catalog once the v1 is stable. If you need a specific language, the SocialCal scheduler supports localized content even when the voiceover tool doesn't yet.
Where is the audio generated and stored?+
Generation happens server-side via Google Cloud Text-to-Speech, then the MP3 is streamed straight back to your browser. We log the character count + voice + timestamp for usage tracking, but the audio itself is not stored on our servers — once you download it, it lives on your device.
Can I import the MP3 into YouTube Studio?+
Yes — drop the MP3 into your video editor (CapCut, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut), align with your video, export, and upload the finished Short to YouTube Studio. Studio also supports direct audio overlay on existing uploads from the Shorts editor on mobile.
