On iOS 17+, "Save to Files" gives you a clean MP4 you can re-upload elsewhere; "Save to Photos" converts to HEVC for the camera roll.
How to download YouTube Shorts on Android
- 1Open the Short in the YouTube app, tap Share → Copy Link.

Is "Shorts to MP4" really a conversion?
Not really — and that's a good thing. YouTube Shorts are stored as MP4 files internally (H.264 video + AAC audio, the same standards iPhones and Android phones record in). When you click "Download MP4," we're not re-encoding the video — we're fetching the original YouTube-served MP4 directly and handing it to you.
Most online "Shorts to MP4 converters" lie about this. They run the original through ffmpeg with a generic preset (often dropping the bitrate by half) and re-serve it as if they did something useful. You end up with a smaller, blurrier file than the original. Our tool skips that step entirely.
The one exception: if the original Short was uploaded above 1080p (rare for vertical content), some downloaders compress to 1080p to keep file sizes manageable. Otherwise, the MP4 you get is bit-for-bit identical to what YouTube serves to its own app.

When YouTube Shorts download fails (and what to do)
Four common failure modes. Each has a specific fix — and one (region lock) doesn't.
The Short is private, unlisted, or members-only
Private and unlisted Shorts can't be fetched by any third-party tool — that's a YouTube account-level restriction. Members-only content (Channel Memberships) is similarly locked behind paid access. There's no workaround.
Fix: Confirm the Short is publicly viewable in an incognito window before pasting the URL.
The Short is age-gated
YouTube requires a signed-in adult account to play age-restricted content. Our server can't sign in on your behalf, so age-gated Shorts return an error.
Fix: Age-gated content can't be downloaded via this tool. Use YouTube Premium's offline mode if you have a verified adult account.
Region-locked outside our server's region
Some Shorts are restricted to specific countries by the rights holder (especially music-heavy content). Our servers are in the US — Shorts blocked in the US won't return.
Fix: Try a different Short. There's no proxy bypass we can ethically offer for region locks.
The shortened share link expired
youtu.be/<id> and goo.gl/<id> share links sometimes fail to redirect from server-side requests. The full youtube.com/shorts/<id> URL always works.
Fix: Open the share link in your browser, copy the full youtube.com/shorts/<id> URL it redirects to, paste that here.
Are YouTube Shorts downloaders safe?
Reputable web-based downloaders are safe. Fake ones — especially the "install our app to download Shorts" variety — are how a lot of malware gets distributed. Here's how to tell the difference.
