How to Set Up Social Listening
Track your brand, competitors, or topics across Reddit, X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Hacker News
What Social Listening Does
Social Listening helps you monitor public mentions of a keyword across Reddit, X, Bluesky, YouTube, and Hacker News. It is useful for tracking your brand name, product name, competitors, campaign terms, or industry topics.
Plan Access and Limits
Social Listening is available on Professional and Enterprise plans.
- Professional: up to 3 tracked keywords
- Enterprise: up to 7 tracked keywords
How to Add Your First Keyword
- Open Listening in the dashboard sidebar
- Go to the Keywords tab
- Click Add Keyword or Track Your First Keyword
- Enter the keyword or brand name you want to monitor
- Choose which platforms to scan
- Choose your email digest preference: Daily, Weekly, or No emails
- Leave Send email notifications enabled if you want digests
- Click Start Tracking
Best Keywords to Track
Start with terms that are specific enough to be useful:
- Your brand or product name
- Common brand misspellings
- Competitor names
- Campaign names
- Niche topics your audience talks about
If a keyword is too broad, you may see more noise in the feed.
What Happens After Setup
Once your keyword is saved:
- SocialCal starts scanning the platforms you selected
- New mentions are stored in your Mentions tab
- You can review them by newest or by relevancy
- On desktop, the Mentions view also shows a details panel with the currently selected mention, top visible sources, and repeat authors
- Your Analytics tab updates as mentions come in
If You Do Not See Mentions Right Away
Try these checks first:
- Make sure the keyword is active in the Keywords tab
- Confirm you selected the right platforms
- Click the refresh button on the keyword card to run a manual check
- Wait a little longer for slower or quota-limited sources
Some sources are checked on staggered schedules to stay within API limits, so a newly added keyword may not fill instantly.
Managing Existing Keywords
From the Keywords tab you can:
- Edit digest settings and monitored platforms
- Pause a keyword without deleting it
- Resume a paused keyword later
- Delete a keyword and its saved mentions
Helpful Setup Tips
- Track one topic per keyword instead of combining many ideas into one phrase
- Start narrow, then broaden if you are not seeing enough relevant results
- Use weekly digests for broad industry terms and daily digests for brand monitoring
