A branded QR for your Threads @handle
Threads handles mirror Instagram's — but the URL is different, the app is different, and the audience behaviour is different. Stop sending people to an Instagram QR when they wanted Threads. This generator builds a proper, brand-correct Threads QR.
Enter your Threads @handle (same as your Instagram one) or paste a full threads.net URL — profile, /post/{id}, or the fediverse /@user@domain form.
Encoding: https://www.threads.net/@socialcal
Error correction is automatically raised to High so the code stays scannable with a logo overlay.
Threads launched as Instagram's text-native cousin and inherited the Instagram handle: if you are @yourname on Instagram, you are @yourname on Threads. That is convenient, but it also creates a printing problem — a QR that just sends people to instagram.com/yourname is the wrong QR if your text content lives on Threads. This generator builds the correct, threads.net-prefixed version with the Threads wordmark in the center by default.
Threads has its own QR feature — when should you use this instead?
Threads inherits its QR code feature from the Instagram app — scroll down inside a Threads profile and a QR icon appears. It only covers personal profiles, only scans inside the Threads / Instagram app, and offers no customization. For print collateral, a branded URL QR is the practical choice.
Threads URL formats you can encode
Threads has a simpler URL taxonomy than most platforms, but there is one interesting quirk: profiles can be addressed via the standard Meta path or via the fediverse-style @user@domain form, because Threads now federates over ActivityPub. Here are the forms that actually resolve:
| Type | URL pattern | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Profile | threads.net/@{handle} | The default for badges, cards and print. Matches the Instagram handle but lands on the text-focused Threads surface. |
| Specific post | threads.net/@{handle}/post/{post_id} | Printing a launch thread, hot take or viral quote on collateral so readers can jump directly to the thread and its replies. |
| Fediverse address | threads.net/@{handle}@threads.net | Cross-network promotion — one URL that Mastodon / Pixelfed users can paste into their own clients to follow from the fediverse side. |
| Tag feed | threads.net/tag/{tagname} | Conference signage where the hashtag matters more than any specific creator — scans open the full tag feed. |
| Search | threads.net/search?q={query} | Niche interest communities where a search query (not a tag) best captures the topic. Rare but valid use case. |
Tip — A QR built from a threads.net URL deep-links into the Threads app on iOS and Android if installed. There is no separate "Threads deep link" URL scheme — the www URL is the canonical form.

What people actually do with a Threads QR
Threads-specific scenarios from the teams and creators using this tool.
Threads-first creators breaking out from Instagram
Writers and commentators who are growing faster on Threads than on Instagram print a Threads-specific QR on slides, newsletters and merchandise — making it clear which surface they actually want the reader on.
Fediverse cross-promotion
Because Threads profiles can be opted into ActivityPub, creators who are also on Mastodon / Pixelfed print a QR pointing at the fediverse-addressable version of their Threads handle — one QR that works for followers on any compatible network.
Event badges for industry conversations
Media, tech and politics events where the real-time conversation is happening on Threads (not Twitter / X) print Threads QRs on lanyards and session handouts so attendees can jump directly into the discussion.
Launch thread permalinks for product drops
Product teams turn the official launch Thread into a QR for packaging inserts and press kits — giving reviewers a single canonical source for updates, Q&A and post-launch chatter.
Threads QR codes — FAQ
Threads has a QR code inside the app — why use this?+
The in-app QR (tap your avatar → QR icon) is convenient for mobile-to-mobile scans but only covers your personal profile, only works when scanned with the Instagram or Threads camera, and offers no customization or print-resolution export. For badges, signage and merch, a URL QR with your brand colors is what you actually need.
Is my Threads handle the same as my Instagram handle?+
Yes — Threads inherits handles directly from Instagram when you sign up, and the two stay linked. That is why a Threads URL (https://www.threads.net/@yourhandle) uses exactly the same handle as your Instagram profile URL. This generator defaults to the Threads domain so your QR lands on the text feed rather than the Instagram grid.
Can I make a QR for a specific Threads post?+
Yes. Copy the full URL of the post (it looks like https://www.threads.net/@yourhandle/post/ABC123) and paste it into the URL field. Useful for turning a launch thread, a viral quote or a long-form story into printable collateral.
Does the QR open the Threads app?+
On iOS and Android, threads.net URLs deep-link into the Threads app if installed. If not, they fall back to the mobile web version of Threads — which, unlike early days, is now fully functional and lets the viewer follow or reply without signing in via the app.
What is the fediverse URL format for?+
Threads is opting into ActivityPub (the fediverse protocol that also powers Mastodon). The fediverse-style URL — https://www.threads.net/@[email protected] — is the form Mastodon / Pixelfed users paste into their own clients to follow your Threads account from a different network. If you cross-post to Mastodon or have a fediverse-aware audience, this URL is worth printing as an alternative.
Can I customize the center logo?+
Yes. The Threads wordmark is the default, but you can upload any square PNG / SVG / JPG via the "Use my own logo" toggle. The QR uses a high error-correction level, so the logo overlay does not affect scan reliability unless it covers more than roughly a third of the code.
